WEEK 1

Select and analyse at least three television and film dramas that you are familiar with. These should include at least ONE SINGLE DRAMA, ONE SERIAL, and ONE SERIES.


You should cover the following for each:
Factual information: Director, year of release or broadcast, main cast, any other relevant
facts
Format and genre: feature/serial/series; comedy, crime drama, period drama, horror, Sci-Fi
etc.
Narrative elements: basic plot and setting, linear/nonlinear elements e.g. flashback,
realist/non realist narrative, open or closed ending
Characters: hero/heroine/villain etc., purpose of characters in the story.
Themes: social or emotional, love, freedom, revenge, relationship between genders, social
inequality, friendship etc.
Some examples of interesting audio elements: use of music, sound effects, voiceover etc.
Some examples of visually interesting scenes or camera shots: camera shot
types/movement/framing etc.

Look at two different SCP texts and, identify how filmmakers used different techniques to affect their audience.
